Welcome to The Greyhound Inn, Grizebeck |

Community Pub....... The Greyhound Inn was under threat of closure and was taken over by the community of Grizebeck on the 20th January 2009 - The Greyhound Community Pub Ltd was formed and the pub leased from the owners. The first month’s trading was sponsored by Eye Film and Television who made a TV documentary recording our efforts on behalf of UKTV. The programme initially went out on Blighty (Channel 534) on the 10th December 2009 and has been repeated since.
Countryside Alliance Award..... The Greyhound Inn Community pub has won the Countryside Alliance - Best Traditional Business Award. This is a national award, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph. Read all about it on the Daily Telegraph website and the Countryside Alliance Awards website.
Sale of the Pub (or not)....... A brief précis of the sorry tale..... In December 2009 the manager (employed by the Community pub) put in an offer to buy the pub. Half of the committee thought that the community should raise money and buy the pub instead while the other half supported the manager. In February 2010 a public meeting was held to see if there was enough interest in the community to match the offer. The outcome was that there was enough money available through local pledges and government grants, but not enough people came forward to make up the other half of the committee and to form an industrial provident society. It was therefore decided not to oppose the managers bid and The Greyhound Community Pub would continue to run the pub in the interim until the sale went through. By June 2010, the sale had still not gone through and the committee felt that one or both parties were dragging their heels. The committee gave notice and intended to wind up business on the 20th July. However the committee were persuaded to continue running the pub after this date because it was believed that the sale was imminent. In August 2009, after missed ultimatums, the owners lost patience with the manager’s buyout and took the pub back. The Greyhound Community Pub ceased trading on Monday 30th August 2010 and the pub closed. It is the owners intention to reopen and offer ale, food and accommodation.
